HAD Policies and Guidelines
The following are the current policy and guideline documents maintained by HAD. Previously published policies that have now undergone revision or retirement may be found below under Archived Policies.
In response to a number of requests for advice on the dislay of ancestors, HAD consulted its council and advisors to creat a best practice guide for use by musuems. HAD does not condone the display of ancestors but where museums feel this is unavoidable the following pdf document gives practical direction. Also available as browsable html.
As respectful reburial of ancestors is a key issue within HAD and one recognised by a growing number of institutions, the Council has put together guidelines for a rite of reburial. This document is available as a pdf form and browsable html. The committal rite may also be found as an appendix to the Reburial Handbook.
At the end of the Respect Conference, Emma Restall Orr and Piotr Bienkowski delivered this paper with some practical advice for the way forward and how to access further information. HAD has the report both in pdfdocument and browsable html.
At the request of various bodies, HAD have put together a document giving very down-to-earth practical guidance to museums and other bodies who have decided to rebury (or are making decisions regarding reburying) ancestors in their care. The guidance is available both in pdf form and browsable html.
