Row over Christian Reburial
Plans to move 200 19th Century skeletons exhumed in South Shields to a new home in Gloucester Cathedral have caused a stir.
The human remains were removed to make way for a new Asda superstore. The developer plans to reinter them over 200 miles away in Gloucester until a permanent home can be found back on Tyneside. But local residents, who feel a connection with their ancestors, are not happy.
With a lot of talk of ‘dignity’ and ‘respect’ and the importance of location this is an interesting case for Pagans to watch.
